A pediatric dentist has specific experience and training working with children. Dr. Gilbert provides his dental services to people of all ages, including children and babies. As a family dentist, he can serve as a pediatric dentist for children while also providing dental care to parents, so the entire family receives care from the same location.
Parents should care for their children’s teeth as soon as the first tooth breaks through your baby’s gums. Dr. Gilbert recommends you make the first dental visit before your baby’s first birthday. After that, your children should visit the dentist every six months.
Visiting the dentist is helpful in preventing tooth decay, but parents need to take steps at home as well. These include:
Dr. Gilbert focuses on educating patients and teaches parents several steps they can take to protect their children’s teeth.
Baby bottle tooth decay is a serious form of decay that develops when your infant’s teeth are exposed to liquids that contain sugar for long periods of time, including formula, milk, and breast milk. It often occurs when babies go to bed with a bottle that contains something other than water. Proper oral hygiene, including wiping out your baby’s mouth with a washcloth or gauze pad, helps prevent this serious problem.
Many children fear the dentist. The noise of the equipment and other unusual sounds, and even the lighting, can cause fear. Dr. Gilbert and his staff work to calm your child’s fear through a warm, inviting atmosphere in the office. Children can watch videos during their treatment or ask for a visit from the office’s therapy dog to help put them more at ease.
My 11 yr old niece also sees him ( she also has a difficult time with dentists) when his posting says “comfort dentistry” they’re NOT kidding! They listen to your needs and do whatever they can to accommodate that. There are now 3 generations who’ve seen him.
My family has seen him for 19 years. Dr. Gilbert came in on a Sunday morning to fix my son’s front teeth which were chipped due to a slip. Excellent work and excellent interactions with my son.
