Feel anxious about visiting the dentist? Chance, our therapy dog, can help! He provides a calming presence for so many of our patients. He intuitively knows when you need a little extra TLC. Chance definitely makes “visiting the dentist” a more pleasant experience!
As a member of our staff, Chance is the ultimate team player. He’s quick to greet everyone with a wag of his tail and he always knows how to boost morale with a little clowning around. And when he’s ‘working’, he channels a Yoda like ability to help any anxious patients feel more comfortable and relaxed during their dental care visits with us. Between work and play, Chance stays pretty busy, so we were fortunate to get him for a few minutes to share a little Q & A about himself.
What’s your favorite part about your job?
Greeting my team members the first thing in the morning! Sometimes it seems like such a long time since I saw them last!
How do you help your patients feel more relaxed?
It’s taken a little practice to perfect , but I position myself so I can receive the most possible pets by the patient! Petting me seems to help them, and it sure makes me feel good too!
Any recommendations you have for fearful patients to help ease their fears?
Believe it or not, putting my long snout in their lap is a game changer for those patients.
How did you get into dental therapy?
My human did not want to leave me home alone all day, goofing off, and he said I had to be productive. The rest of the story is my life at the office.
Where do you like to hang out in Bellevue?
Actually it’s in Redmond at the Marymoor Park off leash area! I like to feel the breeze through my ears when I’m running with the big dogs!
What’s something you can’t live without?
Picking my favorite toy out of the toys box in the morning at the office!
Anything you could live without.
My human gives me a daily dose of vitamin fish oil down my throat. Yuck! Couldn’t there be a better flavor? Bacon would be great!
What’s your take on squirrels?
Devious! I have a seat in the office where I try to keep an eye on them throughout the day. They chase their tails a lot.
Rap, and Snoop Dog is the best!
What do you like to do when you’re away from work and you’re not helping your patients?
I like to daydream, which helps me relax, and also beg for snacks. You never know when you’ll hit the jackpot!
What are your favorite foods?
I’m on a ‘see food, eat food’ diet! Any food is my favorite, except grapes. They don’t agree with me.
Going to work and being with my team, and seeing who comes through the door. Every day is always different with something fun to find!
What’s something about you that we’d never guess?
I’m crazy about having the inside of my ears scratched. Yeah, that’s the ticket!
How do you feel about cats?
We have a cat at home, Noel but she’s not very nice to me and never wants to play.
What’s your secret to making friends?
Making eye contact and wagging my tail! Works wonders!!
Anything else you’d like to share?
My birthday is September 6th!
