When you’re at the dentist, and you’re feeling anxious, who ya gonna call? Chance, our therapy dog! He provides a calming presence for so many of our patients. He intuitively knows when you need a little extra TLC. Chance definitely makes “visiting the dentist” a more pleasant experience!
Every day is the greatest day ever for our beloved staff member Chance, who easily makes friends and keeps everyone calm, while also finding time to keep an eye out on the squirrels outside. If you were curious to know his take on cats, or learn about his favorite local hang-out, Chance was happy to share a little Q&A with everyone.
How do you help your patients feel more relaxed?
I position myself so I can receive the most possible pets by the patient!
What’s your favorite part about your job?
Greeting my team members every morning!
Any recommendations you have for fearful patients to help ease their fears?
Putting my head in their lap is a game changer for those patients.
How’d you get into dental therapy?
My human did not want to leave me home alone all day and he said I had to be productive. The rest of the story is my life at the office.
What’s something you can’t live without?
Picking my favorite toy out of the toys box in the morning at the office!
Tell us about some things you could live without.
My daily dose of vitamin fish oil down my throat. Yuck!
What’s your take on squirrels?
Devious troublemakers! When I get a break, I have a seat in the office where I can watch them and they chase their tails a lot.

What do you like to do when you’re away from work and you’re not helping patients?
Daydream, beg for snacks.
Favorite food(s)?
I’m on a “see food”, eat food diet, so I’m not really too picky about what I eat. I’ll take whatever I can get, but no grapes…and don’t give me any of that fish oil either!
Favorite place to visit?
Marymoor Park off leash area! Running with the big dogs!
What’s your idea of a perfect vacation?
I actually love going to work, it’s like a vacation for me because every day is different and fun. You never know who is going to be coming through the door to visit. I get to make new friends, and it’s always a surprise to see my old friends too. I also like hanging out with my pack, er team, because they’re really fun too!
What’s your secret to making friends?
Just being myself. Making eye contact and wagging my tail! You can’t have enough friends!
Cats, can you trust them?
You can, sometimes, but they sure are high maintenance! We have a cat at home, Noel is her name, but she’s not very nice to me and never wants to play.

I am crazy about having the inside of my ears scratched. Go ahead and see!
